Correct Use of Incontinence Products
See also Section 1.4.2.
General Information
The use of alea is permitted exclusively with approved compatible incontinence products (IPs) or with a Sensor Strip correctly applied in accordance with these Instructions for Use to approved incontinence product lines.
Compatibility depends on:
-
Product line
-
Size
-
Absorbency level
-
Material construction
-
Absorbent core geometry
-
Electrical material properties
-
Correct positioning of the Sensor Strip
Non-approved combinations may result in malfunctions, reduced detection performance, or inaccurate status indications.
Correct Application
System functionality can only be ensured if:
-
The incontinence product is applied correctly
-
The Sensor Strip is positioned according to the instructions
-
The Clip and Sensor Strip are securely connected
-
No material folds or mechanical damage are present
-
No incorrect external application has occurred
Appropriate Size
-
The incontinence product used must be appropriate in size and absorbency level for the intended care situation.
-
Incorrect sizes or unsuitable absorbency levels may impair system performance.
Correct Positioning
The incontinence product, Sensor Strip, and Clip must be positioned correctly.
Incorrect positioning may affect, in particular:
-
Saturation level detection
-
Status signal generation
-
Movement and position detection
-
Position change detection
-
Event notifications
Material and Product Changes
Changes to the product line, absorbent core construction, material characteristics, or manufacturer approvals may affect compatibility and require reassessment.
Information on Limitations When Using alea
Environmental Influences
Use of the system may be limited under the following conditions:
-
Unusual temperature ranges
-
High humidity
-
Direct exposure to heat
-
Strong electromagnetic environments
-
Insufficient network coverage
-
Unstable power supply
-
Mechanical stress on hardware components
Device Condition
Damaged or improperly maintained devices may result in reduced functionality or inaccurate system indications.
Network Requirements
Certain functions require a stable power supply and sufficient data connectivity.
In the event of connection interruptions, the following may be delayed:
-
Status updates
-
Notifications
-
Synchronization processes
-
Visualization within the Cockpit or App
Maintenance and Care
Failure to perform required maintenance, cleaning, or software updates may impair system performance.
Limitations of Use
alea supports care processes but does not replace medical diagnosis or professional care judgment.
Use of the system is particularly limited:
-
Outside the specified environmental conditions
-
With non-approved incontinence product combinations
-
In cases of incorrect Sensor Strip application
-
When hardware is defective
-
When power supply or data connectivity is unavailable
-
When unsupported operating systems or browsers are used
Information on Restrictions of Use and Contraindications
Functions may only be used within their intended application scope.
This applies in particular to:
-
Area Exit Notification
-
Only within approved care contexts, defined areas, and suitable area structures.
-
-
Suspected Fall Notification
-
Only as a software-based notification function for unusual movement or position events, not as an emergency, alarm, or fall detection system.
-
-
Repositioning Monitoring
-
Only within the intended context of repositioning support and management of repositioning intervals.
-
-
Incontinence Monitoring (Urine Saturation Indicator)
-
Only with approved incontinence product combinations and within the defined product, size, and material specifications.
-
General Information on Limitations
-
Even when used correctly, limitations may arise due to individual care conditions, product variations, wearing conditions, environmental influences, or connectivity issues.
-
The information provided by the system should therefore always be assessed within the overall care context.
