Requirements
The following technical requirements are necessary for installation and operation of the complete system and its components:
-
Standard power supply through suitable electrical outlets for the designated USB-C power adapters.
-
A stable internet connection via Wi-Fi or LTE with sufficient quality and availability for data transmission.
-
Suitable mobile devices and/or workstation systems for use of the alea App or the designated browser interfaces.
-
When using Wi-Fi: Access to a network provided by the operator with sufficient coverage throughout the intended area of use.
Recommended Conditions
The following conditions are beneficial but not mandatory:
-
A safe and suitable location for the alea Docks in each room or at each care bed.
-
Protected storage options for supplied spare components (alea Docks and alea Clips).
-
Where required: Mobile devices for users of the alea App.
-
Charging equipment (charging cables and similar accessories) for all mobile devices in use.
-
Clearly visible placement of the instructions provided during installation for day-to-day use of alea within the care environment.
Setting Up the Wi-Fi Connection for alea
-
If alea is operated via Wi-Fi, a network connection with internet access provided by the operator is required.
-
The Wi-Fi network must be configured so that the designated alea components can establish a stable connection to the cloud infrastructure. Existing network infrastructures may be used provided that the required outbound connections are permitted.
-
Logical separation within the existing IT environment (e.g., a dedicated VLAN or comparable segmentation) may be advisable depending on organizational security requirements.
Network name (SSID), access credentials, and additional connection parameters are provided on a site-specific basis by the operator, the responsible person within the respective care setting, or the responsible IT administrators.
Firewall and Port Requirements
-
The required outbound HTTPS connections and system communication channels used by the cloud services must be permitted.
-
The specific destination addresses, ports, and protocols required depend on the product version in use and can be provided by the manufacturer or authorized service partners if necessary.
Signal Strength and Network Quality
-
Stable Wi-Fi or LTE coverage must be available throughout the intended area of use to ensure reliable transmission of status information, notifications, and system data.
-
Insufficient network coverage may result in delayed data transmission or temporary connection interruptions.
Connection Test
-
After the site-specific network parameters have been provided, alea is connected to the designated Wi-Fi network.
-
The device automatically checks internet connectivity.
-
A successful connection is indicated by the status “Connected” on the device display or within the App.
If no connection can be established:
-
Verify the Wi-Fi SSID and password.
-
Ensure that the VLAN has internet access.
-
Check the signal strength at the device location.
Fallback to LTE
-
If Wi-Fi is unavailable or the connection becomes unstable, alea automatically switches to LTE mode (provided that LTE is enabled and a SIM card is installed).
-
Once Wi-Fi becomes available again, the device automatically reconnects to Wi-Fi within 15 minutes.
Technical Information for IT Administrators
-
DHCP scope: Reserve sufficient IP addresses for all active alea devices.
-
QoS (optional): Prioritization of MQTT and HTTPS traffic is recommended.
-
Monitoring: Regular verification of Wi-Fi signal strength and VLAN isolation is recommended.
